Computer Resources Patrons may use public access computers in the library with Internet access and a variety of software programs, including word processing and subject tutorials. Online database resources are also available at all four branches. Bibliographic computer searches of some online databases are also available for the cost of online time. To use the full access Internet stations, patrons need a library card in good standing (not blocked or barred) in their possession. Please see Computer and Internet Use Rules. All patrons are guaranteed 60 minutes without interruption the first time they sign in for computer use each day at Main and West Wyandotte. At Argentine, patrons are guaranteed 30 minutes without interruption the first time they sign in for computer use each day. After the initial time period, the patron can be bumped to make room for a new user if there are no free workstations. The patron who has been logged in for the greatest total number of minutes of computer use for that date will be the first to be bumped. Once a patron has been bumped, he/she may sign up for additional computer use when one becomes available. The user may be bumped again if he/she has the most cumulated time for the day. Computer users may print web-pages and other documents at each branch. Computer printouts are $.10 per page. KCKPL does not offer special printing services to patrons, and will not load special paper in KCKPL printers. Patrons who wish to print documents on special paper will need to visit a copy service. KCKPL staff offer a variety of classes to help patrons learn how to use computers. Classes included basic computer skills and training for programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. See the Calendar of Events for a full class schedule. The Computer Training Lab at the Main Library may be reserved by other libraries or library organizations for training purposes. The Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is happy to work with other community organizations to develop and present training within the constraints of staff time and existing hardware and software. |
