Chef Hat
Materials needed:
Ms. Linda is cookin' up a storm. |
| 1. Cut the strip of construction paper to fit your head. Leave approximately 1" extra so you have room later to tape the ends together. |
2. Fold 1" over length-wise to make a pocket for the tissue paper. |
3. Fold or scrunch the tissue paper so the short ends of the tissue paper sheets fill the pocket in the hatband. |
4. Tape the tissue paper to the hatband. You may also want to tape the tissue paper together towards the top of the sheets. |
5. Bend the hatband into a circle with the taped side out. |
6. Gather the tissue paper at the top and carefully twist it together. This will hold your hat closed at the top. |
7. (Turn it inside-out) Gently flip the paper strip around so that the tape is on the inside. You will need to tuck in the twisted knot at the top. The tissue paper will want to gap open, and you will have to shift the tissue paper to fill the spaces. (After twisting the tissue paper together, grab the twisted part in one hand, with the hat hanging down to the floor. Carefully turn your hand upwards, and gently pull the tissue paper down so that the hat is now over your hand and arm. Take your hand out and you're ready for step 8) |
8. Tuck one end of the hatband into the other end and tape the ends of the paper strip together to make your chef's hat. |
9. Fix the tissue paper to look the way you want it to. |
10. Put on your hat and go cook up a storm. |
Variations: Use different colors of tissue paper to make a wildly colorful chef's hat. |
Holy Chef's Hat, Batman! It's the Joker! |
Use markers, crayons, stickers, and glitter glue to decorate the hatband before taping on the tissue paper. Make sure everything is dry before moving on to the next step. |
